Bed Time Story (longer version of above):

In the summer of 1997, Joseph developed an interest in software programming and development. With a copy of Visual Basic 4.0, he created his first application MailDesigner PLUS, an envelop printing utility, as a gift for his dad’s birthday. The program was relatively simple but it gave Joseph the first taste of programming and the satisfaction that can be acquired through it.For the remainder of the year, Joseph intensively studied the Microsoft Visual Basic 4.0 programming language and general computing concept through self-studying guides and hand-on practices. Eventually, Joseph created his second application – Disable PLUS, a security tool for Windows, that was featured in several local IT newspapers. It wasn’t long until Joseph began to tackle more complex projects and took an active role in developing real-world applications. Joseph founded SkyLam Software in 1998, and released two main applications under the company: Disable PLUS and Intelli-Dial-UP. The former program was widely adopted in various organizations worldwide, including Ericsson and a US school board; while the latter program was considered the most popular Internet Optimizer in its time.
In September 2000, Joseph was awarded the 2000 Canadian Chinese Entrepreneur Award. During the dinner gala, he also spoke with K.Y. Ho, ex-founder and chairman of ATI Technologies Inc. Fully recognized for his business insight, his vision, and his strive for innovation and success, Joseph was interviewed by the Economist & Sun newspaper, and was the head subject of a five-page business article in the popular newspaper.

At the end of his high school year, Joseph led a team of 5 other non-technical students, and created Ontario’s first interactive and dynamic high school content management system, empowering teachers to build a stronger relationship with their students through the web.

From 2001-2005, Joseph operated a web hosting firm and an IT consulting firm – Appwalk.com Technologies Canada, where he completed many IT outsourcing projects for technology companies in the States. During this time, Joseph also picked up on a number of other programming languages – Java, PHP, ASP, SQL, CSS, XML, and VBA.

In the winter of 2005, Joseph once again exercised his creative mind and developed the world’s longest e-mail address provider. Hits to the website totalled over 2 million within the first year of operation, and the website generated over 30,000 members in 6-month timespan, with minimal marketing. The site was featured in numerous magazines and newspapers around the world.

During Joseph’s career path, he held a position as a Web Marketing Specialist at Microsoft Canada where he was responsible for the development, maintainence, and the marketing of the Microsoft Canada Small Business Corner portal. He also had the chance to exchange e-mail with his idol – Bill Gates.

Joseph graduated from the University of Toronto Management Co-op program and was the holder of the highest mark in first year computing courses at the University.  He was awarded the Myers Broyer Prize for Entrepreneurship from the University of Toronto in 2008.
